The forest beyond the trees
“The Forest Beyond the Trees” is an exhibition about Sweden’s last remaining old-growth forests and some of the species that live there. A story about places where time creates the conditions for a rich abundance of life. Places where trees live for hundreds of years and then stand dead for just as long, where mosses blanket the ground beneath a soft green quilt, and where the forest belongs to owls and capercaillies.
About Johan Hammar
The photographer and filmmaker Johan Hammar has, over several years, documented life in some of Sweden’s last remaining old-growth forests. In the exhibition, visitors encounter large-format photographs where sweeping landscapes are combined with intimate close-up portraits of some of the forest’s inhabitants.
