Here we have gathered answers to the most frequently asked questions about Astrid Lindgren’s Näs. If you have any questions that you think we should include here, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Opening times

When is Astrid Lindgren’s Näs open?

We are open on weekends between 17 April and 15 May .
From 16 May to 21 September we are open daily. In addition, we open for specific events in the autumn and for our Christmas market, which marks the end of the season. See our different seasons, opening hours and programmes below.

How long does a visit take?

We recommend about 3-4 hours, which is the average time a guest spends with us during a visit. This will of course vary depending on what you are interested in. Our major exhibition about Astrid Lindgren takes about 40 minutes. The guided tour takes about 45 minutes and is all on foot.

Tickets and prices

How much does it cost to visit Astrid Lindgren’s Näs?

The entrance fee varies depending on the time of year you want to visit us. Here you can find information about entrance tickets and yearly passes.

What is included in the entrance ticket?

We offer two different entrance tickets. You can choose to buy both or just one, depending on your interests.
One ticket includes entrance to our gardens with temporary exhibitions in the gardens and in the Vicarage.
The second ticket includes our main exhibition about Astrid Lindgren ‘Astrid Lindgren and the Power of Stories’.
The guided tour of Astrid Lindgren’s childhood home is not included as part of the entrance tickets and requires an additional ticket.

Do I need to pay for entrance to the restaurant and shop?

You need an entrance ticket to visit our exhibitions, the childhood home and the gardens. Admission to the restaurant and shop is free.

Do I need to book tickets in advance?

No, there are ticket offices located in the Pavilion that are manned during our opening hours. However, if you would like to take a guided tour of the childhood home, we recommend that you book in advance.

Do I have to book tickets in advance if I have an annual pass?

No. Your annual pass acts as a ticket that you can present at the entrance when you visit the park.

Do I have to buy a separate ticket or pay extra for guided tours?

Yes, the guided tour of Astrid Lindgren’s childhood home is not included as part of the entrance tickets and requires a separate ticket.

Is there a discount for visiting as part of a group?

Yes, if you are more than 20 people and inform us of your arrival in advance, we can offer you a group discount.

How much does parking cost?

Our car park is adjacent to the park and costs SEK 75/day. If you need to charge your electric car, we also have a number of charging points. These places cannot be booked in advance and you must pay for the charging yourself.

Can I buy gift cards?

Yes, gift cards are available from the Astrid Lindgren shop.

The childhood home

Can visitors go inside the childhood home?

Yes, if you book a guided tour. The childhood home is currently owned by Astrid Lindgren’s nieces and can only be visited with one of our guides.

How long does a visit take?

A tour takes about 45 minutes. The tour starts outdoors in the gardens and then continues inside the house. The guided tour is entirely on foot.

Is a guided tour of the childhood home included in the entrance price?

No, a guided tour requires an optional ticket that must be purchased in addition to the entrance ticket. Book you ticket in advance here.

In which languages are the tours given?

They can be booked in Swedish, English or German. During the summer season there are daily tours. See more information here.

How do I book a tour?

During our main season in the summer, we have daily tours for which you can sign up as an individual. At other times we only accept pre-booked groups of at least 8 people.

Service and availability

Is Astrid Lindgren’s Näs accessible?

All visitors are welcome at Astrid Lindgren’s Näs and we endeavour to be as accessible as possible.

Is it possible to access all areas of the park with a wheelchair?

Yes, with some exceptions. Our gardens have rammed earth pathways and the exhibitions in the Pavilion and Vicarage premises are adapted for accessibility. However, wheelchairs and walking frames are not permitted in the older privately owned buildings, such as the childhood home.

Where are the toilets located?

There are toilets in several locations on the site: in the Pavilion by the entrance to the park, inside the Vicarage and by the Garden House. Disabled toilets are available in the Pavilion and in the Vicarage.

Are there changing rooms with changing tables?

Yes, the disabled toilets in the Pavilion, the Vicarage and the Garden House all have a changing table.

What are the rules about pushchairs?

For safety reasons, pushchairs are not allowed in our exhibitions and restaurant. However, we have areas just outside where they can be left.

Can I bring my dog?

Unfortunately, animals are not permitted in the exhibitions or the restaurant. However, dogs on leads are welcome to spend time with their owners in the gardens. There is access to both shade and water. Assistance dogs are allowed in all public areas.

Food and drink

Can you eat somewhere on the site?

Yes, our restaurant in the Pavilion serves food prepared with ingredients sourced from a selection of local producers, we offer hot dishes as well as a range of coffees and ice creams. We are licensed to sell alcohol.

Can visitors bring a packed lunch?

At Astrid Lindgren’s Näs you are welcome to buy food or coffee to enjoy in our restaurant or on our outdoor terrace, or why not enjoy an ice cream in the garden?
If you wish to eat food you have brought with you, we ask that you do so in the gardens as the restaurant and outdoor terrace are reserved for restaurant guests.

Are there barbecue areas?

No, unfortunately not.

Do you offer vegan and vegetarian food?

Yes, there are plenty of options to choose from for vegetarians and vegans. Please ask our staff.

Do you offer gluten-free food?

Yes, our restaurant serves food suitable for those with allergies. Please ask our staff.

Other questions

Can I leave the park and re-enter?

Yes, please contact our staff at the ticket office and they will help you.

Are there lockers available?

Yes, luggage/valuables can be left just inside the entrance to the park where there are lockers for outerwear and small bags.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept the majority of payment cards on site. We do not accept cash.

Are there playgrounds on the site?

Yes, in several areas. In one of our garden rooms, Lekhagen, we have put play at the centre. Here you are invited to jump, climb, balance, swing and walk on stilts. A perfect place for those who are full of play.

We are a family with children, are there activities suitable for all ages?

In our gardens you can visit various exhibitions, enjoy a walk, play, climb, learn more about Astrid Lindgren, play croquet, play chess, have a picnic, swing, watch our animals or just lie out on a blanket and read.

Our exhibition is aimed at visitors of all ages who are curious about Astrid Lindgren.

Guided tours of Astrid Lindgren’s childhood home are recommended for children aged eight and over.

Exhibitions

What exhibitions are being shown in 2025?

At Astrid Lindgren’s Näs the major Astrid Lindgren exhibition is permanently available to view. Alongside this, we produce temporary exhibitions in the Pavilion, the Vicarage and the Gardens. Our exhibitions deal with different perspectives on Astrid Lindgren’s life and authorship, and sometimes they are linked to special themes found in her books or that were otherwise important in her life.

Seasonal exhibitions 2025 ”Astrid Lindgren – The landscape of imagination ” is on show in the Vicarage 17/4-28/9.
