Welcome home to Astrid’s
Visiting Astrid Lindgren’s childhood home is like stepping back in time.
Everything remains just as it was when Astrid was a child. The pump organ she didn’t want to practice on, the beautiful cushion she embroidered, the bed she was born in. All the other furniture, paintings, and kitchen utensils are still there. It almost feels as if Astrid and her three siblings might come running in at any moment to play “Sicken blås”!
A guided tour of the childhood home becomes a vivid story about Astrid Lindgren’s family and life on a farm at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, the house is a private residence owned by the family, and can only be visited through our guided tours.
Guided tours
The childhood home is a private residence and can only be visited as part of one of our guided tours.
During our opening season, from May to September, we offer daily guided tours in Swedish, German, and English. Outside of this period, we offer guided tours in Swedish only, during our events: Salikon Day on October 24 and the Christmas market from November 27–29. During the Christmas market, we offer special Christmas tours of Astrid Lindgren’s childhood home, decorated for the holiday season.
Christmas tours of Astrid Lindgren’s childhood home, November 27–29 (only in Swedish)
During our Christmas tours, we travel back more than a century to 1913—the year of Astrid Lindgren’s most vivid Christmas Eve memory. We follow the family’s celebration, complete with traditions, food, and the scents of cinnamon and cloves. Listen to a unique recording of Astrid’s father, Samuel August, reading the Christmas Gospel.
Language
The tour can be booked in Swedish, German, or English during May – September, but is available only in Swedish during other events.
Accessibility
We offer guided tours for a maximum of 12 people; the minimum age is 8. The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes and takes place while standing. Due to steps and narrow doorways, wheelchairs and walkers cannot be taken inside the childhood home.
Please note that there is a minimum age of 8 years for the tour.
We are unable to accommodate infants or dogs on the guided tour. Thank you for your understanding and for helping us create an atmospheric tour experience.
Tickets and booking
Tickets for 2027 will be released at a later date.
The ticket for the guided tour is separate from the general admission ticket. You can purchase admission and tour tickets for October 24 and the Christmas market separately by following the link below.
