New trees in the garden

2025 will be the year of trees. We are planting 20 trees and about 30 bushes in the gardens. As well as replacing old or diseased trees that have been removed, new trees will be planted to enhance the garden spaces.

What would a garden be without trees?

What would a garden be without trees? You might ask yourself. Trees are an essential part of any garden or landscape. They provide stability, structure and continuity. We often develop strong relationships with trees; they are with us throughout our lives. But it takes time for trees to grow to full maturity, so it’s important to be proactive. The trees we plant today are also a gift to tomorrow’s visitors. This year, the summer exhibition ‘The Landscapes of Imagination’ will also feature an outdoor section – magical portals – located in the gardens.

Trädgårdsgång

“Everywhere, in poems and songs and fairy tales and myths, we have trees. And we have them in our memories. ‘Trees that I have known’, imagine if people were asked to tell these stories! All that we would hear, plucked from the hiding places of people’s memories, about the whitebeam at the gate and the aspen in the meadow and the fragrant linden and the flowering cherry tree and the birches in the grove from where the cuckoo called. I think we would mostly hear about childhood trees: climbing trees, play trees, dream trees… so many!”
