Astrid Lindgren – The Landscape of Imagination
The story of Mio, My Son is one of Astrid Lindgren’s most beloved adventure stories, which takes the reader on a dizzying journey into the world of imagination. This year’s summer exhibition is all about imagination and takes Mio, My Son as its starting point.
Enter the world of imagination
Through book extracts and large-format illustrations, you will follow Bo Vilhelm Olsson to the Land of Faraway, where he becomes Prince Mio. In other parts of the exhibition, you can step into the world of stories that sparked Astrid’s own imagination at a young age. There you will experience classic stories, Småland legends, picture worlds and mystical legendary creatures. A common thread running through the exhibition is the question: what is the capacity of your imagination? And is it important?

Discover magical portals in the gardens
Welcome to an exhibition about Astrid Lindgren, Mio, My Son and the wonderful landscape of imagination. The exhibition was first produced for Sofiero Castle in 2024. Now it is on display at Astrid Lindgren’s Näs in a new version. Several of Johan Egerkrans’ illustrations for the 2020 reissue of Mio, My Son are on show in the exhibition.

“A child, alone with his book, creates for himself, somewhere in the secret recesses of the soul, his own pictures which surpass all else. Such pictures are necessary for humanity. On the day that the children’s imagination no longer has the strength to create them, on that day humanity will be poorer.”
