An exhibition on the artist Ingrid Vang Nyman, who introduced modernism to Swedish children’s books and gave us the image of Pippi Longstocking. Some fifty original illustrations were on display alongside built environments. Adjacent to the exhibition was a wild and fun Pippi kitchen where children of all ages could unleash their playfulness. The exhibition was produced by Millesgården in Stockholm in collaboration with Saltkråkan AB and the Royal Library.

Ingrid Vang Nyman

Pippi Longstocking has been called a revolution in the nursery, and Ingrid Vang Nyman’s incredible interpretation has contributed to this view. With her Pippi illustrations, she influenced and renewed Swedish illustration art. Generations of children have been influenced by her images and today’s Swedish children’s book illustrators testify to her importance in their own development.
