‘Pippi at 75’

Under the lemonade tree in the garden at Astrid Lindgren’s Näs we are showing the exhibition ‘Pippi at 75’. It tells the story of how Pippi came to be and how the book was received when it reached bookshops in 1945 – just after the end of the Second World War. We learn about the storm of criticism it received, as well as the favourable reviews, and finally its sparkling international breakthrough.

‘Pippi at 75’

Today, the books about Pippi Longstocking have been translated into 77 languages. Theatre productions, films and music have been made about Pippi, and she has become a symbol of independence and anti-authoritarianism, far beyond the world of children’s books. ‘Pippi at 75’ tells the whole story of the red-haired, strong and independent girl who conquered the world. The exhibition is produced by Astrid Lindgren’s Näs, on behalf of Astrid Lindgren AB, producer Karin Eliasson, graphic design by Unna design.
