The road to Emil
How did Emil in Lönneberga come to be Emil in Lönneberga? That’s the question everyone got the answer to in the summer exhibition ‘The Road to Emil’ at Astrid Lindgren’s Näs in Vimmerby. In this playful exhibition, we foll ow the collaboration between Astrid Lindgren and Björn Berg, with the help of a number of original drawings and paintings, diary entries and sketches.
Emil in Lönneberga celebrates 50 years
The Emil stories originated right here in Astrid Lindgren’s Näs, where Astrid Lindgren grew up, which gives the exhibition a special resonance. In the exhibition film, Mark Levengood goes in search of the people who inspired Emil, Anton, Alfred and all the other characters. A private – and never before published – recording of Astrid Lindgren interviewing her father, Samuel August, is also included. The subject is of course Emil in Lönneberga, who turns 50 this year.

Astrid Lindgren and Björn Berg
The exhibition ‘The Road to Emil’ tells the story of how Astrid Lindgren once upon a timer created the stories of Emil in Lönneberga and her successful collaboration with the cartoonist Björn Berg. A number of original pictures drawn by Björn Berg are included – the very first time his studies and sketches are being exhibited, those which led to the creation of all the characters in the Emil books.
