The whole world’s Astrid Lindgren

In 2007, when Astrid Lindgren would have been 100 years old, she was celebrated across the world. On 12 June, Crown Princess Victoria opened the new Astrid Lindgren’s Näs Cultural Centre where Astrid Lindgren was born and grew up. The newly built pavilion, which houses the major new Astrid Lindgren exhibition, also opened its doors.

The whole world’s Astrid Lindgren

The major exhibition on Astrid Lindgren’s life and work provides some of the keys to her world-renowned authorship. We get an insight into what she was like as a person, how she lived and how she was able to create her many fantastic stories. The basic exhibition was produced for the Foundation for the Preservation of Astrid Linden’s Work, and Håkan Kvist was the exhibition producer.

“I want to write for a readership that can create miracles. Children create miracles when they read.”

From ’That’s why children need books’, the acceptance speech Astrid Lindgren gave in April 1958 upon receiving the HC Andersen Prize.
