About the company

Astrid Lindgren’s Vimmerby AB runs two visitor centres in Vimmerby for Astrid Lindgren fans both young and old. At Astrid Lindgren’s Näs you can deepen your knowledge of Astrid Lindgren’s life and work. At Astrid Lindgren’s World you can experience Astrid’s stories and meet the characters from the books and films. In addition to its visitor destinations, Astrid Lindgren’s Vimmerby AB also operates conference and meeting activities, as well as The Tiny Town, our guest accommodation. It employs 74 permanent staff together with about 600 seasonal staff.

Our values

Quality
Astrid Lindgren had high standards for quality – both for her own work and interpretations by others. That’s why we always strive for the highest possible quality in what we do.

The child’s perspective
Astrid Lindgren had a genuine interest in children as people, and she approached them with respect and honest curiosity. The child’s perspective was always at the centre of her work. In the same way, we try to meet children with interest, curiosity and engagement.

Playfulness
”And we played and played and played. It’s a wonder we didn’t play ourselves to death!”. You probably recognise this Astrid Lindgren quote. We want to inspire all the children who visits us, whether they are still small or now grown up. We put playfulness centre stage and give space for guests to explore the whims and ideas of their inner child.

Respect
During her life and in her books, Astrid Lindgren offered many examples of civil courage and the importance of everyone being equal valued. She had an honest and respectful approach to the world around her. We share that here, in her world. We have built a community by being interested in and open to the opinions, characteristics and needs of our colleagues and fellow human beings, while being willing to stand up for our own.

Once upon a time…

In 2007, when Astrid Lindgren would have been 100 years old, she was celebrated all over the world. In connection with the centenary, the new culture centre Astrid Lindgren’s Näs was opened by Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria. It was here Astrid was born and grew up.
